Have you booked your NCT course yet?

The NCT has been offering antenatal classes in Nottingham for many, many years but recently the options available have expanded.

As well as the "traditional" evening courses, usually held as eight 2-hour classes, you can now book courses that take place at weekends e.g two consecutive Saturdays or Sundays, six Saturday afternoons or Sunday evenings.

Most of our antenatal courses are attended by couples expecting their first baby but sometimes we have couples who are expecting their second or subsequent child and didn't do classes the first time around and whilst they are very welcome on these courses, there's another option - refresher courses. Lasting just one day, these are aimed at parents who have been through labour and/or birth at least once already and want to use their experience to help with their next labour.

We are now also able to offer postnatal courses, which are held on weekdays and attended by parent and baby. These courses give you the opportunity to explore different approaches to important parenting issues with a qualified group leader and other new parents in your area.

Coming soon - look out for our Baby First Aid courses which we are running in conjunction with British Red Cross. These are designed to build your confidence as a parent or carer in dealing with emergency situations.

Our Facebook page is updated regularly with infomation about Nottingham NCT and the services we offer including our Nearly New Sales, Bumps and Babies groups, BabyCafe breastfeeding support and social and fundraising events, such as the forthcoming Swish, which will give you the opportunity to update your wardrobe by swapping your unwanted clothes and accessories with someone else. "Like" us if you are on Facebook, and if you aren't, bookmark it so you can check it regularly; it's open to public viewing. You can find out what courses are available on our website.

I hope we will see you at one of our courses or events during 2012. If you'd like to know more, please feel free to drop me a line or call/text me on 07711 956779.

We're holding a Swish event!

The Nottingham Branch of the National Childbirth Trust are planning to hold a Swish to raise vital funds to continue our support of the Baby Cafe at the Chilwell Surestart children’s centre.

A swish event is where you bring any unwanted clothes, bags or accessories that you no longer want or fit and swap them with other like minded people! You might bring a jumper and leave with a fabulous pair of shoes. Or you may bring a handbag and leave with a gorgeous pair of jeans. A fantastic way to update your wardrobe!

So save unwanted items for our Swish event coming in the new year!

“The latest craze sweeping the country is ethical, eco-fabulous, social and fun. Welcome to the future of fashion."

Cheque Guarantee Cards

You will be aware that cheque guarantee cards will no longer guarantee cheques from 30th June 2011.

As some people might still wish to pay by this method at our sales we would appreciate another form of ID being presented at the till (such as photo driving licence or Passport), as well as your address being put on the back of the cheque.

NCT's finance manager has been representing the charity on sector consultations with the UK Payments Council over cheque guarantee cards and cheques themselves, which are due to be phased out in 2018. We will continue to investigate alternative payment options and appreciate your understanding and patience during this transition phase.; [original article]

West Bridgford Nearly New Sale looking good!

I've just received the news that we have only one seller slot left for our first West Bridgford Nearly New Sale which is due to take place at The Becket School on Saturday 16 July.

This is fantastic news and means the sale will certainly be on a scale we are used to seeing at our other venues in Mapperley and formerly Long Eaton and Bramcote.

For information on Nearly New Sales generally have a look at the NCT website; For information on the West Bridgford Sale, check our Facebook events page.
